Historical Tour

1968
A proud legacy, born from a great vision: The Al Ain Zoo becomes a natural habitat for endangered species.

In 1968, the late Sheikh Zayed, father of the nation, founded the Al Ain Zoo. Long before environmentalism became a widely adopted issue, Sheikh Zayed was deeply concerned about the wildlife and nature of his homeland. It was a lifelong passion of his and he established this unique zoo in the Middle East with the vision of creating a natural habitat for animals to live freely

Today, continuing the 40 year heritage of the Al Ain Zoo, the Al Ain Wildlife Park & Resort (AWPR) is creating a natural destination, both entertaining and educational, where people, wildlife and the environment can co-exist in a sustainable manner. The AWPR will provide adventurous safaris, warm hospitality, themed retail outlets and tranquil residential communities.

Enjoy life in touch with nature – for a day, a week or a lifetime.

1972
Saving a national treasure from extinction: The first Arabian oryx breeds in captivity at the Al Ain Zoo.

In his lifelong aspiration to preserve the nature and wildlife of the nation, Sheikh Zayed banned hunting of the Arabian oryx, which was about to become extinct in the wild. In 1972, the first conservation and breeding programme for the Arabian oryx was successfully introduced at the Al Ain Zoo.

Today, the AWPR is set to become the pride of the nation. It is designed for those who want to enjoy life in touch with nature – for a day, a week or a lifetime.
