The landscapes that are being developed at the Al Ain Wildlife Park & Resort represent one of the most ambitious arid land planting schemes ever undertaken in the UAE and indeed the world.
At this unique combination of zoo, botanic garden, museum and resort, you will see beautiful, faithful re-creations of several desert landscapes, a huge diversity of botanic and conservation collections and a series of extraordinary displays that will inspire any guest with the sheer, majestic grandeur of the desert.
Throughout the construction process, care and attention is being lavished on the site’s existing vegetation. In the largest tree salvage operation ever undertaken in this region, hundreds of mature trees are being lifted, containerised, held in our nurseries for up to two years and then replanted. At the same time, massive areas are being newly planted with native acacia woodland, to improve the site's potential as a nature reserve capable of attracting indigenous UAE wildlife.
Reflecting our heartfelt commitment to conservation and sustainability, great care has also been taken to design landscapes and plantings that require minimal water. So please don't expect to see rainforest exhibits here! Instead, you can look forward to exploring one of the world’s largest desert botanic gardens, along with extraordinary landscapes and low-water fruit and herb gardens that will offer delightful shade, colour and scent throughout the resort and its residences.
Working with local partners, the AWPR is also operating a programme that aims to conserve the botanical heritage of the UAE, including the ancient date palm cultivars that characterise the oasis town of Al Ain, as well as threatened species and habitats in Africa, Arabia and central Asia.
