Botanical Programs

The deserts and arid regions of Arabia, Sahara, North East Africa and Central Asia have an immensely rich and often overlooked biodiversity, both biological and cultural. In a unique combination of zoo, botanic garden and museum, the Al Ain Wildlife Park & Resort will display and celebrate that biodiversity to the full, with a series of natural landscaped habitats that will reconnect our guests with the wonder, beauty and value of the desert.

The habitats will be perfect, living re-creations of the original environments. So, for example, guests will be able to explore the rocky canyons and kopjes of North East Kenya and see not only lions but the plants of that area.

Our professional team of botanists and horticulturists is working with gardens and nurseries around the world to establish one of the most important arid land plant collections anywhere. In addition to creating authentic desert landscapes, the team is establishing spectacular gardens for desert palms and cacti, seasonal exhibitions of ephemeral desert annuals and collections of local date palm cultivars. At the same time, the team will continue the enormously important work of propagating, conserving and protecting endangered plants from the UAE and beyond.
