The area of the former Al Ain Zoo, established in 1967 by the late Sheikh Zayed, is set for a total transformation over the next few years. Re-branded in 2009 as the Al Ain Wildlife Park & Resort (AWPR), the new development will occupy a total area of around 900 hectares (2,200 Acres).
Construction will be spread over three phases. Phase 1 is currently under construction:
• AWPR main entry
• World Deserts entry plaza
• UAE World Desert
• Sheikh Zayed Desert Learning Centre
• Abu Dhabi Garden
• African World Desert
• African loading village
• African safari (North Kenya)
• Residential cluster including mosque, lineal park and convenient shops
• Restaurants
• Amphitheatre
• Resort hotel
• Staff village
Phase 2:
• Second phase of residential clusters
• Arabian World Desert
• Sonoran World Desert
• African Safari
• Arabian and Asian wildlife safari loading area
• Arabian safari
• Arabian safari encampment
Phase 3:
• Final components in the World Deserts
• Asian wildlife safari
• Family resort
The phasing of the AWPR has been carefully planned to open amenities as soon as is feasible, while maintaining consideration for economic and environmental responsibility. Care has also been taken to ensure that the ongoing construction will not detract from the visitors' enjoyment.
