Conservation & Breeding

"On land and in the sea, our forefathers lived and survived in this environment. They were able to do so because they recognised the need to conserve it, to take from it only what they needed to live, and to preserve it for succeeding generations."

The late Sheikh Zayed

The Al Ain Wildlife Park & Resort (AWPR) is home to one of the world’s largest, most ambitious and spectacular conservation programmes. Focussing on threatened animal and plant life from the world’s arid regions, the AWPR is at the forefront of research, captive breeding and propagation and the reintroduction of threatened species to their wild habitats.

It provides specialist facilities for some of the world’s most rare and endangered species, including the Scimitar-horned oryx, the Arabian leopard and the Mohrr gazelle.

Its constantly evolving seed banks and nurseries contain unique collections of the UAE’s native species along with a unique collection of endangered desert plants from Arabia and North East Africa.
