The Al Ain Wildlife Park & Resort (AWPR) is a place where the biodiversity and cultures of desert and arid regions – particularly Arabia, the Sahara, North East Africa and Central Asia - truly come alive. Through a series of carefully constructed, environmentally sensitive displays, we illustrate the immense biological and cultural diversity of desert lands, and reconnect our guests with the endless beauty of the desert; a beauty which cannot be denied but is all too often overlooked.
We are creating a unique combination of zoo, botanic garden and museum, so that plants and animals are exhibited - and, of course, allowed to live - in a totally authentic environment. To give you just one example, you will be able to explore the rocky canyons and kopjes of North Eastern Kenya and see not only the indigenous lions but also the plants of that area.
Our professional botanists and horticulturists are working with gardens and nurseries around the world to establish one of the most important arid land plant collections anywhere. Here you will find spectacular gardens filled with desert palms and cacti, seasonal exhibitions of breathtakingly beautiful yet ephemeral desert annuals and fascinating collections of local date palm cultivars.
