A cornerstone of the UAE’s commitment to wildlife conservation, both locally and internationally, the Al Ain Wildlife Park & Resort (AWPR) combines an amazing showcase of the teeming biodiversity that exists in the world’s deserts with a vivid demonstration that sustainable desert living is entirely possible.
It continues the excellent work that was started by the Al Ain Zoo, which was founded as long ago as 1967 by the late Sheikh Zayed, father of the nation. The zoo has played a vital role in conserving several endangered species and is internationally recognised for its success in breeding desert antelopes, most notably the Arabian oryx.
As the rate of species extinction and habitat loss accelerates all over the world, centres like this can only become more important. Only the world’s best practices in conservation management, health, welfare, husbandry and genetics are ever used in tending to our unique collection of plants and animals. And the partnerships we have formed across the seas, with noted groups such as the San Diego Zoological Society and Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, give us scope for some dramatic, breakthrough innovations in conservation and education.
Education is, in fact, a primary objective for the AWPR. We aim to delight and inspire young people with a series of unforgettable experiences which will instil in them a lifelong respect and concern for the environment. Through this, we hope to help nurture the next generation of scientists and environmentalists.
Yet we aspire to make the AWPR even more than a memorable entertainment and educational experience. We endeavour to make it nothing less than a place that fully realises its potential to truly and profoundly change people's lives.
It is our vision that our guests, galvanised by their visit, will become passionate advocates for conservation and sustainability themselves, and be motivated to fully integrate their new concerns into the fabric of their everyday life.
